Mahé's Rest Day

Updated: Mar 18

Having a rest day is very important for every single human being on this planet. When you take a conscious rest, you are giving yourself a break, to do anything you want to be doing without feeling guilty.

We all know that overwork teaches us to disrespect our boundaries. After all, we are not born to work for the rest of our lives.

This year would be the first year Mahé implements National Holidays as Rest Days at Mahé.

One of my teachers said that we need to do things in moderation in life. Nothing too extreme. Not too much, not too less. All has to be done in a great balance. Even practicing too much Yoga and Meditation is not good for our balance. Too much on something will create attachment - which contradicts the teachings of Yoga.

In Sutra 1:12 (Abhyasa vairagyabhyam tannirodhah), the sage Patanjali continues to focus his teachings on how to calm the vrittis—the mind’s restless, swirling thoughts. Many yogis consider this particular sutra to be the foundation of a lifelong practice and the key to integrating yoga with all aspects of daily living. One translation: “The vrittis are restrained (quieted) by dedicated practice and non-attachment,” in this case, practice and detachment—to create wholeness or balance.

As much as Mahé likes to open 24/7, it will do all of us more harm than good. This year, Mahé will be taking Rest Days according to the National Public Holidays approved by the Dutch government:
