About the event
Do you love singing? Do you belt out your favourite songs in the car, when you’re on your own? Or are you singing with your friends in the karaoke bar? Whether you are a beginner or a confident singer, this workshop is for you. Here you will not only learn to improve your singing voice with exercises you can do at home, but we will also learn about vocal health. Did you know that it’s important to look after your voice? And not just for singing. Anyone who is regularly in an environment where they need to use their speaking voice constantly requires good vocal health.
Even better, group singing has so many health benefits. Yes! It’s true. Research shows health benefits such as:
- singing in a group (for example a choir) forges strong social bonds quickly;
- improved breathing, posture, and muscle tension;
- as well as sustaining a healthy immune system by reducing stress!
Wow! How great is it that something so joyful can benefit us in so many ways? What are you waiting for? Come and join us!
This workshop includes:
- finding and developing your voice;
- exercises for vocal health;
- fun warm ups to continue working on at home;
- tips for looking after your voice (especially in the colder months);
- learning how to sing in a group;
- learning how to harmonise with others.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is for any and all ability levels, from ‘I’ve never sung in public before’ to ‘I’ve been singing in choirs and concerts all my life’.
About Karina Asti
Hi, my name is Karina. I have many hats - music is one of them. Music is so ingrained in my life that I cannot imagine living without it. I have been studying piano and singing since I was young. I have sung in many different choirs - pop, classical, gospel, and musical theatre, and I love them all! I have taken part in many workshops and courses along the way but my favourites were three amazing courses with the Royal Opera House, London, on working with young people to create operatic productions.
I play the piano but singing feels like a natural extension of myself. I can’t NOT sing and it is a wonderful way to express my feelings or impact my mood. In my experience of working with children and adults, what I love the most is encouraging and supporting people in finding their voice and bringing the joy of singing into their lives. I believe singing is for everyone. Singing for yourself has many health benefits, but singing with a group, in a community - that is powerful.
