About the event
Irene Anggreeni (certified dance/movement psychotherapist and mental wellness coach) is coming back to Mahé with a super fun and insightful Dance Therapy workshop on Saturday, 21 January 2023! Dance Therapy helps you to develop a better awareness of your body through movement or dance. During dance therapy workshop, Irene might ask you to make a gesture, change it in some way, or observe it mindfully. You might create a sequence of movements or dance that is symbolic of your inner experience. There is nothing right or wrong, all you need to do is to connect with your inner experience and express it through your body movements. Dance therapy truly is the embodiment of the expression, "Dance like noone is watching."
During this Dance Therapy, Irene will focus on our hips! Yes, our hips. Because hips don't lie. Perhaps you’ve heard your yoga teacher refer to the hips as the body’s emotional junk drawer. While folded over in pigeon pose, you may have wondered if there’s any truth to this statement. It turns out, the answer is pretty incredible. To get the link between the hips and emotions, understanding the mind-body connection is key. When you’re stressed, your emotional and physical health can both suffer. People with trauma or other mental health conditions like anxiety and depression often experience physical symptoms as well. Through it all, there may just be a common link: the hips. Of course, each body is different. Where one person holds stress in their body may not be exactly the same for another. The hip is the area on each side of the pelvis. The joint itself is one of the largest and most unique joints in the human body, responsible for bearing weight, stabilizing the core, and moving the upper leg. The tighter your hips are, the less mobility your body has. This can result in pain and hinder daily activities like walking and climbing stairs. Tight hips can also cause an anterior tilt of the pelvis which results in poor posture and misalignment of the head and neck. This goes to show how important the hips are when it comes to how the entire body functions. Through Dance Therapy, you'll be able to get to know your hips in ways you never experienced before. When you're having fun, dancing, laughing, your body enters a relaxed state which will create access to your hips, and here's where magic happens!! Our body healing process begins when we are in a relaxed and happy state. In the hands of a dance therapy like Irene, you are in safe hands. Experience this two-hours workshop in full joy and witness your hips and the rest of your body flowing in unison with your breath and emotions. And maybe, this will be the beginning of the rest of your life experiencing freedom from hip tightness and being able to express your emotions safely without holding back from fears of being judged. Let's get our body moving to the sound of the music.
