We gather in a sacred circle, a tradition rooted in the wisdom of Indigenous peoples from Central and South America as well as old European earth traditions. In this space, we drink pure, ceremonial-grade cacao, a gentle yet powerful plant medicine, prepared with a special blend of healing herbs. This heart-opening drink is not the same as store-bought chocolate: it is cacao in its purest form, minimally processed, as it has been enjoyed for thousands of years.

The Spirit of Cacao - I'x:
For the Maya, cacao is one of the most sacred plants, alongside maize. The spirit of cacao is called I’x (pronounced isch): she embodies the feminine, the jaguar, and the lush energy of the jungle. The jaguar’s mouth is seen as the gateway to the underworld, Xib’alb’a, the place of transformation. I’x Cacao invites us to explore both our light and our shadows. By embracing the darker parts of ourselves, the fears, the doubts, the old wounds, we can transform them into sources of strength and wisdom. Cacao helps us turn this inner journey from a struggle into a beautiful adventure.

A Myth Woven into Beans:
In the sacred Maya Kiché book called Popol Vuh, the Hero Twins Junajpu and I’xbalanqué were conceived when their father’s skull, hanging in a cacao tree, miraculously impregnated the princess Ixkik’. They ventured into the underworld Xibalbá, overcame its trials, resurrected their father as the Maize God, and became the Sun and Moon. In this way, cacao is forever linked with transformation, resilience, and the cosmic dance of life.
A Ceremony from the Heart:
During the ceremony, we move through a gentle, intentional process:
✔️ Opening the space with an altar for the four directions (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) and a center dedicated to cacao.
✔️ Smudging with palo santo or mugwort to clear and ground our energy.
✔️ Sharing circle to set intentions.
✔️ Grounding meditation to connect with body and breath.
✔️ Drinking the cacao, prepared with love and herbs like cinnamon, ginger, ashwagandha, or cardamom.
✔️ Shamanic drum journey, guiding you into deep meditation and self-reflection. Closing with oracle cards and final sharing.
WHY CACAO?
Cacao is called the food of the Gods (Theobroma cacao) for a reason. She works on many levels:
• Physically: Rich in magnesium for muscle relaxation, iron for vitality, flavonoids for heart health,
and antioxidants to release what you no longer need.
• Emotionally: Boosts “happy hormones” like serotonin, oxytocin, and PEA, bringing joy, connection, and emotional release.

About Andrea
Andrea is a ceremonialist and herbalist rooted in both Latin American and European ancestral traditions. She studied natural medicine and shamanism, learning from Kichwa elders in the Amazon, Afro-Colombian herbalists, and taitas (spiritual leaders) - as well as from the wise women and plant teachings of her own European lineage. Guided by the spirit of cacao, she creates sacred spaces for heart connection, healing, and remembrance.

Cacao may not be suitable for people taking MAOI or SSRI antidepressants, with serious heart conditions, during pregnancy/breastfeeding, or with allergies to cacao/histamine intolerance.
